The Hive Has Arrived

New Playable Bug Family!

The Hive has arrived!!

I’ve been hard at work building the second bug family for “Nectar of the Gods''. I was really happy with how Beetle Brigade turned out and their “beetleynessss”. The Hive is dedicated to the Hymenoptera order of insects, an order of insects I just discovered when I Googled what links wasps and bees.

Bees and their love of flower nectar was one of my original inspirations for a bug themed real-time strategy game. I love the little worlds they create with all of their roles and organizations. The world of royal jelly, flowers, stingers and honeycomb is so rich and perfect for strategy and interaction. The flapping of wings also gives them a distinct look from the Beetle Brigade.

But enough beeswaxing poetic about the magnificence of bees, let’s get into our 8 hive units now playable in “Nectar of the Gods”!

Yellowjacket

Yellowjacket

The core hive unit, unassuming at first, but terrifying in a swarm.

Wallace's Giant Bee

Wallace's Giant Bee

The largest known bee species. Thought to be extinct several times over the course of history. Experience it’s glory in Nectar of the Gods it’s cheaper than Ebay.

Executioner Wasp

Executioner Wasp

The grumpiest member of The Hive. This wasp is native to Central / South America and is known for its extremely painful and potent sting.

Ability: Executes any enemy it touches.

Bumble Bee

Bumble Bee

Your friendly fuzzy neighborhood Bumble Bee. A little clumsy but one of the most loyal Hive members out there.

Ability: Able to move diagonally.

Carpenter Bee

Carpenter Bee

It’s always nice to have a handy member of the family. Adept at woodworking, the carpenter bee’s fearsome hammers beat back thirsty enemies and propel its fellow Hive members.

Ability: Pushes enemies back 1 tile, propels team members forward 1 tile. Move vertically.

The Flower

Flower

The source of power for the swarm. The only source of nectar until the bugs found soda and boba.

Ability: Provides additional health with a petal to hive passersby.

Beeswax

Beeswax

Sticky business the beeswax is. Best to stay away from it.

Ability: Dramatically slows enemy bugs who touch it.

Queen Bee

Queen Bee

The Beyonce of the Hive. Bae of the bees. Mother of monarchs. Respect the crown.

Ability: Produces royal jelly periodically that provides additional resources to the Hive.

I hope you enjoy the new bugs!! I’m really proud of the way they turned out. Go take them for a spin and tell me which is your favorite!
